▪ an unknown virus begins to wipe out majority of the world population, but certain people are found to be immune to it. they are shuffled off into various facilities with other healthy non-immunes (primarily family) in hopes of finding a cure and ensuring the future of the human race.
▪ immunes who had come across an infected individual (or who were basically exposed to the virus in some way, shape or form) start to develop enhanced abilities.
▪ with further analysis, the remaining scientists of the main compound, known only as compound alpha, soon discover the virus forces encoded DNA into the current host's strands of DNA which is why the ones who are compatible with the new sequence (the immunes) "evolve" and the ones who don't (the non-immunes) "degrade" — and then there are the others (the hollows) who can carry the disease but do not manifest anything.
▪ it has been twenty years since the outbreak. the facilities have all lost contact with each other. survivors in compound alpha have had little to no need in stepping outside. they are completely self-sustaining. the leaders of the compound have decided it is time to potentially kick start society back up by locating and bringing survivors of other facilities back to the main base as well as conduct tests to see if the virus is still out there. they plan to choose a select group of immunes to carry out these objectives, a mix of individuals with unique skill sets.
▪ as of this point, all immunes have only one specialized ability, ranging from enhanced strength to enhanced speed. since they have had no exposure to the virus, they would need to come into contact with it again before they can develop more evolved powers.
▪ there are six facilities in total, all spread out in different states. not all of them have survived for this long. certain facilities are aware of the hollows; others are not. compound alpha has no clue there are survivors outside of their walls. that will, of course, change soon. (x)
